MTV2'S 'HEADBANGERS BALL'
IN CONNECTION WITH NEW BOOK
'FULL METAL JACKIE CERTIFIED: THE 50 MOST INFLUENTIAL HEAVY METAL SONGS OF THE '80S AND THE TRUE STORIES BEHIND THEIR LYRICS'

Full Metal Jackie (Jackie Kajzer) will guest host the May 3 episode of Headbangers Ball which airs on MTV2 at 3:00 AM ET/PT (late Monday night/early Tuesday morning). The episode will feature exclusive audio clips from some of Kajzer's interviews for Full Metal Jackie Certified: The 50 Most Influential Heavy Metal Songs Of The '80s And The True Stories Behind Their Lyrics. The soundbites will include excerpts of conversations with members of Judas Priest, Megadeth, Dio, Pantera, Twisted Sister, Queensryche, Danzig, Testament and Skid Row.

Full Metal Jackie Certified… was written by Kajzer with Roger Lotring, with a foreword by Dave Mustaine of Megadeth. The book brings '80s metal to life through exclusive interviews with the artists that shaped the decade and classic photos by renowned rock photographer Mark Weiss—along with Kajzer's own unique perspective as a leading voice among metal fans and developer and host of the award-winning nationally syndicated metal radio show "Full Metal Jackie."

Full Metal Jackie Certified… has received positive feedback from media across the board. Here's a sample of the book's critical praise:

"The must-read collection reveals the inspirations for some of the most iconic songs from perhaps metal's most iconic decade. Interviews with songwriters like Rob Halford (who discusses the Thatcher-era desperation that birthed Judas Priest's 'Breaking The Law'), Living Colour's Vernon Reid (who explains how To Live And Die In L.A. and Peter Gabriel inspired 'Cult Of Personality'), and Glenn Danzig (who highlights the irony of his anti-censorship screed 'Mother' being twice banned from MTV), help you hear old favorites with new ears."

—Rebecca Raber, Revolver, March/April 2010

"Telling the tales behind the greatest tunes of 1980s, this mighty tome is packed with insights from the songwriters themselves, from Priest to Pantera and AC/DC to Megadeth. Flipping through, it's almost as if Jackie Kajzer and co-scribe Roger Lotring have compiled ultimate playlist of the damned and then gone into fascinating detail. Most importantly, their love for the subject shines through brilliantly. This is a must-have addition to any self-respecting metalhead's library."

"While the literary formula of tour bus recollections and wild stories were great years ago, the telltale difference in this book is in the thorough and detailed execution…First, they are forthright on the intention of this book. It's about the influence of the lyrics of these songs from the '80s heavy metal genre. It's not just another legacy list for the ages. With their mission clearly defined, they easily peel away the excess fat of hair metal and Sunset Strip rock found in the '80s and get to the meat of the debate—the messages and meanings behind our favorite metal songs. Secondly, the narratives go well beyond the redundant stories and anecdotes. They include thoughts from the heavy metal artists and songwriters about the cultural and social impact these songs had when spandex was cool. They complement that original info with newly acquired and fresh insight from those same artists on the continued validity and power these songs still hold today. And thirdly, the book dives deep into each song's musical composition…gather your musical buddies, grab some brews, spin some vinyl and hash out the details of this book full of metal classics."

—Chris Kies, Premier Guitar, March 2010

"…a really interesting read, with great stories from the songs' writers."

—Chad Bowar, About.com, February 1, 2010

"The book is a mammoth undertaking and clearly done with not only respect for Heavy Metal but also a true love for the music. Reading this book you can see why Jackie's voice is one of the few female voices in metal that's taken seriously by all. She knows her shit, and she can throw down with the best of them. The book itself is much more than a general list book; it's a heavily researched slice of metal history from an era that really kick started the whole movement. Jackie literally breaks the songs down almost to a cellular level. She covers lyrical development, phrasing, inspiration, chords, writing, recording, anything and everything that goes into creating a song. These examinations are fully three dimensional and incredibly in-depth looks at what makes a song tick."

—Anniruddh "Andrew" Bansal, FullMetalRock.com, January 29, 2010

"This disc-jockey-turned-journalist has interviewed countless metal musicians over the years and her passion for '80s metal and her experience working alongside her metal heroes gave her keen insight into their songs…It was fascinating to hear the artists talk about the creative process for the music and the lyrics."

—Doug Van Pelt, HM Magazine, March/April 2010

"If you love metal (and you know you do) then check out Full Metal Jackie Certified and let the debate of heaviness begin!"

—David Carr, Chicks With Guns Blog, January 14, 2010

"Each entry in this book has the insight of the writer…which gives the lyrics life and makes for a different story than your typical interview. Jackie did a great job enticing the meanings from her subjects whether it was Dee Snider, King Diamond, Kerry King, amongst others and if the meaning of metal lyrics fascinate you then Certified will take you over the edge."

—Jeffrey Easton, MetalExiles.com, March 2010

"A fun and interesting read…As each page is turned, there is more anticipation and excitement on how these songs were made and, more importantly, why. It is quite amazing to explore why these bands were making music, and what drove them to go that extra mile…This book is a must read if you are not only a fan of heavy metal, but a fan of music in general, because it shows you the power that music can inspire (in positive and negative ways), as well as how you view music as a whole."
