Kicking off the 2018 Sabroso festival tour, Takeru Kobayashi won the highly acclaimed Gringo Bandito Chronic Tacos Challenge taco eating contest for the second year in a row, competing against seven other professional eaters at the KLOS Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival on Saturday, April 7 in Dana Point, CA. To win the highly-coveted title of Chronic Tacos Eating Champion, Kobayashi devoured 154 tacos in 10 minutes.

From Nagano, Japan, Kobayashi holds eight Guinness World Records for competitive eating and is the undefeated champion of the Gringo Bandito Chronic Tacos Championship. In 2017 he succeeded in devouring 159 tacos in 10 minutes — shattering his own 2015 record of 144 tacos.

Following the Chronic Tacos Challenge at KLOS Sabroso in Dana Point, Kobayashi will conduct meet-and-greets and eating demonstrations at the Sabroso dates in Denver, Albuquerque, Auburn and Portland. During the eating demonstrations, he will explain and showcase how to consume multiple tacos in one minute. "I am grateful for the opportunity to travel with the festival and introduce the sport of competitive eating to thousands of spectators," says Kobayashi.

Along with Kobayashi's eating demonstrations and participation in the Gringo Bandito Chronic Tacos Challenge in Dana Point, all Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco, & Music Festival dates offer unique gourmet tacos, craft beer sampling, spirited games, and live performances by The Offspring and Pennywise, along with bands including The Vandals, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Unwritten Law, Los Kung Fu Monkeys, and more on select dates (lineups vary by city). Attendees are also invited to sample all flavors of The Offspring lead singer Dexter Holland's top rated hot sauce — Gringo Bandito!

Additionally, KLOS Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival in Dana Point, CA saw taco vendors compete for the coveted Sabroso "Best Of Show," awarded by a panel of highly acclaimed food judges. Chisme Tortilleria claimed 1st place with their Asada Cimichurri Taco: hand pressed tortilla, skirt steak, salsa roja, onions, cilantro, sambal, fresh potato chips, and chimichurri. Coming in right behind them was Fiesta Gourme in 2nd place with their Fiesta Fish Taco: flour tortilla, green salsa, serrano crema, tilapia, and cheese, and Sausage King placed 3rd with the Sausage INYO Taco: Cajun chicken, jalapeno slaw, salsa, and shredded jack cheese.

About Gringo Bandito

Gringo Bandito was started in 2004 by Dexter Holland, singer for the multi-platinum punk rock band The Offspring, more as a hobby than a business. "I just thought it would be cool to have a hot sauce," says Holland. "I gave away the first batch as Christmas presents to my friends." The response to this new hot sauce was so overwhelming that Holland decided to put it out commercially. Sales were modest at first, and the hot sauce was distributed only in Holland's native Southern California. "It has always been a DIY operation for sure," Holland says. "It started small but it has just kept on growing." After several years and over a million bottles later, Gringo Bandito hot sauce has garnered a worldwide audience and a loyal following. "We're not the most well-known hot sauce out there," says Holland, "but once people try it, they're hooked." Gringo Bandito is now sold in Australia, Japan, Canada, Finland, Switzerland, UK, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Hungary and coast to coast in the US and can be found in the top 10 on Amazon.com's highest customer rated hot sauces amongst 5000+ other products.
